Meet the Pizza Place You’ve Never Heard of Until Now – MidiCi

Do you like pizza? If so, then you’ll love the homemade firewood pizza from MidiCi located at 191 S Rio Grande St in the Gateway. MidiCi (Pronounced MED-E-CHI) Neapolitan Pizza Company is a great place to sit down for a delicious meal. It’s open from 4-9 PM on Monday through Thursday, 4-10 PM on Fridays, and closed on Saturdays and Sundays. We tried a few popular items off the menu: the Margarita pizza, the House Pesto pizza, garlic bread, and three flavors of gelato (chocolate, vanilla, and pistachio).

The garlic bread came first as an appetizer, and it was fantastic. Olivia Jiang, who came with us, loved the garlic bread: “It’s super good; the bread is nice and crispy and the topping is great.” A few minutes later the pizzas came. We started with the Margarita pizza. It was an all-around great pizza with an authentic style to it, from the fresh mozzarella to the tomato sauce made from actual crushed tomatoes – seeds and all. The pizza was overall amazing, and the basil on top added a lot to the flavor. On both pizzas, the crust was thin and crispy, but not burnt. After that, we tried the House Pesto pizza. It was similar to the Margarita, but with pesto sauce in place of tomato sauce. Overall, we liked the original Margarita better because it was more flavorful, but the Pesto pizza was still good. We thought it was especially good with pepper and balsamic vinegar.

Once we finished our pizzas, we went over to the main counter and got a few scoops of gelato. The pistachio gelato was fantastic; it was nutty and tasted very authentic. The chocolate gelato was rich and had a nice texture, and not as sugary compared to other gelato we’ve had in the past. Olivia shared her thoughts on her gelato: “I got the vanilla flavored gelato and it was pretty good. It was soft and tasted better than regular vanilla ice cream.”

MidiCi has amazing interior decoration. There are a lot of string lights, and even a big tree in the middle of the restaurant. Another thing we loved was the array of toppings available. We could add parmesan, basil, red pepper flakes, balsamic vinegar, and various oils to our food. We liked being able to add extra toppings onto our pizza slices so we could figure out what we like best.

Our only complaint was how long it took. We got there right when it opened, so it’s possible they weren’t ready yet, but our pizza took around 15-20 minutes despite being the only customers there. We got the garlic bread pretty quickly, though, which was good as an appetizer.

Overall, we really loved the authentic and flavorful food from MidiCi. It did take a while to get our food, but it was pretty reasonably priced and tasted amazing. We agreed to give MidiCi Neapolitan Pizza Company 4 out of 5 stars.
