Movie Reviews

Isabella Rodriguez and Andrea Ramos

Batman

This is the first Batman movie I’ve seen that I have actually really enjoyed. It doesn’t act like a normal superhero movie. It acts more like a murder mystery or a serial killer horror movie than an action movie. They use some really unique filming techniques and the perspectives of the camera are very cool and unusual and make It have a very scary atmosphere. There are no scenes that take place during the day time at all and the mood around batman is so dang terrifying it feels like he is the villain sometimes. They don’t portray him the normal way he is portrayed, you lose a lot of the tony stark playboy billionaire feel to him and he just feels like a sad and sickly recluse when he is bruce wayne but when he is batman he is terrifying and like a scary villain almost. The plot is really interesting and complicated but it stays coherent and not really too confusing; it is very cool.

Turning Red

Turning red is a really good movie. It is silly and has a really unique animation style. The plot, while sometimes a little silly, rings true with me. It has a really fun magic system and great songs. It is family friendly but not boring for adults yet entertaining enough for little kids. It’s a good movie to watch with your family. I think it is pretty great. Not jaw dropping but pretty good.

Free Guy

Free Guy is a pretty good movie. It is very funny with a lot of slapstick comedy. The storyline was really interesting and I really liked the concept they had of artificial life being made when you do something you’re never meant to do. The whole way a guy lives his life is really interesting and fun. The scene in which he starts changing is really cool and subtly creepy and fun. Overall it was very fun and pretty good movie

Halloween Kills

The best words I can use to describe this movie are these: Gruesome and confusing. As someone who hasn’t been following the Micheal Myers movies, I found it a little difficult to follow along with who was who and what they meant to the story, though I’m sure more familiar with them won’t have that problem. I should also point out that not only did this movie present a level of gore that’s only truly acceptable within horror movies, but some of the characters’ choices when faced with Myers, were also the kind of thing you would only see in horror movies. “Horror movie logic” as some may call it. Take for example, a character running for their life and finding a means of escape. But instead of escaping and possibly getting to safety, they stay and try to fight the killer – almost immediately resulting in their death. Aside from that, one thing I found interesting to watch was a small-town community, once plagued by a merciless serial killer, now banding together and taking the law into their own hands in hopes of finally neutralizing the threat.

The 355

Spy movies have always been a riveting subgenre of action movies to watch, but The 355 does the classic idea of spy movies differently as it follows a group of highly-trained female spies doing what they can to protect themselves and the ones they love. This movie is a healthy mix of action and of your seat suspense for what will happen next. One thing that this movie also does really well with its characters is demonstrating their resilience. The kind that allows someone to keep pressing forward even when they’ve gone through the worst of the worst. For that, this movie is very well done.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

As someone who watched a couple of the other Ghostbuster movies growing up, this latest movie is filled with fun references to previous movies mixed with sarcastic humor. Overall, this movie is both strange and oddly wholesome. I believe that everyone can enjoy it whether they’ve seen past Ghostbuster movies or not.

Moonfall

When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I was immediately intrigued by the idea of making a thriller centered around the moon. And I have to say, this is one of the most terrifying and ominous sci-fi movies I’ve seen in a long time added to the supernatural element and constant threat of natural disaster. One of the other things that made this movie so unsettling was the constant feeling of uncertainty in being confronted with something no one has ever seen before – and still trying desperately to make sense of it.

Death on the Nile

This movie is a modern take on the classic murder mystery many people know too well. Fixed with betrayal, secrets, old money, and a good twist at the end you won’t see unless you’re paying attention all set in the 1940s. You may have also noticed from the trailers that this movie also stars Gal Gadot, whom many of you may know as playing Wonderwoman since 2015. This movie is filled with incredible visuals, a decent plot, and characters set in stone with their own agendas.
