West High’s Boys Golf

Leo Pearson

West High’s Boys Golf season ended on October 3rd, capping off with an appearance at Utah’s State tournament. They had a good season, finishing second in each one of their seven regular season competitions. This gave West a spot in the Region tournament, where they finished second, qualifying the team for State. Unfortunately, West did not score well at State, finishing 16th out of 16 teams. West sent two athletes, Tyler Skeen and Albert Han, to the individual portion of the State tournament. However, neither qualified for the next round.

When I asked Oscar Peche, a member of the golf team, if he was satisfied with the season he answered: “Yes I felt satisfied with the golf season […] I thought we did well [both] as a team and individually.” To learn more about the golf team, I asked Peche about his experiences. When asked about team practices, he responded: “Usually our practices aren’t too tough or challenging. But before State and Regions, we definitely needed to be more competitive.” West High golf will continue next year, so be sure to email West’s golf coach, Cory Norton, if you are interested.
